The Rolex Sky-Dweller was first introduced in 2012, and the annual calendar is growing in popularity among collectors. It is a large watch with complications, so it appeals to a wider audience than the “average” Rolex buyer. This year, we have new color combinations and movement updates.
It’s hard to believe that the Rolex Sky-Dweller has been with us for over 10 years! Since then, it has gotten new developments! Since then, it has received its new dial colors and a version using the Oysterflex strap. It is also available in Rolesor (steel with yellow gold bezel) and in three shades of 18-carat gold. However, the 9001 automatic movements with an annual calendar and multiple time zones has remained the same. This year, there is a new dial and a slight movement update. As far as we know, the 42 mm diameter, the 50.5 mm lugs, the 14 mm thickness, and the 21 mm lug spacing remain the same.
Starting with the movement, the only perceptible change from the previous caliber 9001 is the switch to the brand’s Chronergy escapement, resulting in a new movement called the 9002. The Chronergy escapement combines greater energy efficiency with greater reliability while maintaining the existing anti-magnetic properties. It is a minor adjustment but one that is consistent with most of Rolex’s other movements. Other features, such as the chronometer certification, the 28,800vph frequency and the 72-hour power reserve remain unchanged.
Many onlookers are talking about the new Rolex Sky-Dweller Everose, model 336935. this 18k rose gold replica watch pairs an Oyster bracelet with a blue-green dial, a deadly combination. Press materials tell us that this dial color is exclusive to this model, so you won’t see it on the Day-Date or other models. Pricing is not listed on the Rolex website, but we do know the list price will be around €50,000.
Next, white gold is back in the Sky-Dweller lineup and for the first time, this metal is paired with the Oysterflex “bracelet.” Shown above in glossy black, there is also a white variant. Both have a folding Oyster clasp with a Glidelock extension.
For the most affordable option, the Sky-Dweller is also available in a Rolesor version, which is Rolex’s way of saying a mix of stainless steel and 18k gold. You may recognize the dial above, as it has become as popular as the mint green on the Datejust. I’ve seen this shade in person, and if I were to go with my current Rolex, I’d probably go with this color. It works well here too, even if the dial is more complicated.
