Rolex was founded in 1905 in London, England as the brainchild of German Hans Wilsdorf. Wilsdorf had a monumental idea at the time: to design and manufacture wristwatches, which was unpopular in the era of pocket watches. This, combined with the wristwatch’s reputation for inaccuracy, made Wilsdorf’s idea a difficult sell from the start. Persistence paid off, however, and together with his business partner Alfred Davis, Wilsdorf enlisted the innovative skills of Swiss watchmakers with the aim of creating replica watches that were not only accurate but also beautiful. And so the Rolex watch was born.
From the very beginning, Wilsdorf pursued the perfection of timekeeping known as “chronometric precision”.
