The Rolex Daytona has become one of the most cherished models in the brand’s entire collection, but it didn’t start out that way. In fact, back in 1963, when the hand-wound spaceship Daytona chronograph was first introduced, it was a pretty lackluster sales performer for replica Rolex and remained so until the early 1980s. Things quickly changed, however, as Italians began to become avid, serious collectors later that decade, and prices for pre-owned Rolex Daytona models began to skyrocket.
However, vintage models are not the only best-selling Daytona models; vintage models from the 1980s and 1990s are also highly collectible, as are a huge number of post-2000 models and currently produced Rolex Daytona watches. The fake Rolex Daytona mania continues, my friends. But which are the top Rolex Daytona models that stand out in an already very popular watch lineup?
Rolex was founded in 1905 in London, England as the brainchild of German Hans Wilsdorf. Wilsdorf had a monumental idea at the time: to design and manufacture wristwatches, which was unpopular in the era of pocket watches. This, combined with the wristwatch’s reputation for inaccuracy, made Wilsdorf’s idea a difficult sell from the start. Persistence paid off, however, and together with his business partner Alfred Davis, Wilsdorf enlisted the innovative skills of Swiss watchmakers with the aim of creating replica watches that were not only accurate but also beautiful. And so the Rolex watch was born.
From the very beginning, Wilsdorf pursued the perfection of timekeeping known as “chronometric precision”. This term confirms that the quality of a watch’s movement and its timekeeping are as precise as possible. Rolex was the first watch to receive a Swiss chronometric precision certificate in 1910. The company moved its operations to Geneva, Switzerland, in 1920; a logical step in the development of the business, considering that many replica watch mechanisms were originally designed and manufactured by watchmakers in Biel, Switzerland.
When one thinks of copy Rolex watches, one thinks of the ultimate in luxury and class. Other apt descriptions of these coveted timepieces are accuracy, quality, and beauty. However, these accolades do not fully describe this revolutionary brand. Beyond their beauty, Rolex timepieces are crafted on the basis of more than a century of watchmaking excellence. Rolex sets the standard for innovative timekeeping, and no other company can live up to Rolex’s standards.
